Sunil Narine has been an invaluable asset to the Knight Riders team. KKR CEO and MD Venky Mysore recently said Sunil Narine is as good as Andre Russell when it comes to all-round capabilities. He started off in the team as a pinch-hitter and slowly progressed to be one of the finest openers for us. His power hitting with the bat and tricky variations with the ball make him one of the most sought-after players in IPL. It won’t be a hyperbole if we say that he was one of the key orchestrators of our 2012, 2014 title wins.
Narine has been extremely effective in the powerplay overs and even at the death. Talking about batting, Narine started opening the innings for KKR in 2017 and has transformed into a phenomenal striker of the ball. In the IPL, Sunil has scored 771 runs at a staggering strike-rate of 168.34. His recent exploits at the Caribbean Premier League for Trinbago Knight Riders remind us why KKR hasn’t let go of this man since 2012. Even on a sluggish surface in Trinidad, Narine scored quick-fire 50s against Guyana Amazon Warriors and Jamaica Tallawahs. In the first three games of the CPL, Narine has conceded less than 5 RPO and has played an instrumental role in restricting the opposition.
Sunil Narine first grabbed attention of the Windies selectors by taking all 10 wickets in a trial match. He soon got a summon to the Trinidad & Tobago squad in January 2009. He made his ODI debut against India in Ahmedabad in 2011.
